Bandaranayake College, Gampaha Achieves World Runner-Up at International Band Competition in Malaysia


From September 12 to 14, the Western Cadet Brass Band of Bandaranayake College, Gampaha proudly represented Sri Lanka at the Malaysia World Marching Band Competition 2025. Competing against top bands from across the globe, the band earned the prestigious World Runner-Up title in the Marching Street Parade (International) category, showcasing outstanding discipline, precision, and musical excellence.

Adding to this success, Sergeant Kanchana Chandima Dullewa secured 2nd place in the Best Drum Major category, underlining the leadership and artistry within the team. The band’s remarkable performance reflects the dedication of its members, coaches, and support staff. Former Sergeant and current coach, Sanjaya Abeysekara, played a pivotal role in guiding the team toward this international recognition.

The Old Boys’ Association extends heartfelt congratulations to the students, principals, MIC teacher, coaches, and parents for their unwavering commitment. Special appreciation is also given to past members of the Western Cadet Brass Band, including OBA Deputy Treasurer Sohan Anuhas and Executive Committee member Gayan Gunasekara, for their continued support.

This milestone reinforces the band’s tradition of discipline, creativity, and excellence. The OBA is confident that the Western Cadet Brass Band will continue to uphold the Bandaranayake legacy and bring pride to both the college and the nation.
